Here is part three of '2023 at the BDC'! Let's hear from our Venue Services team...
In our last chapter of ‘2023 at the BDC’, we had a chat with Ed, Carly and Leanne on their year at the venue. Now however, we speak with our Venue Services team, who I’m sure have plenty of great things to share about running exhibitions…
Tia Thornhill, Venue Services Manager
If you could describe this year in one word, what would it be and why?
Growth. This year I completed my university degree, allowing my role here at the BDC to develop significantly. I am taking on larger and more complex shows, whilst also becoming parts of DEI & sustainability working groups.
What has your favourite moment been this year for the BDC and why?
My favourite moment was opening the Country Living Fair, and although there were many challenges, I was so proud of the teams for pulling together a successful show. It was so rewarding. (Plus it was Christmas all around which is of course the best time of the year!)
A specific achievement that you’re proud of?
This year, it has to be getting a first in my degree at university, which was in Events Management.
What are you looking forward to next year for the BDC and why?
I’m really looking forward to using my knowledge to grow all areas of my role in new as well as returning shows. Bring on 2024!
Jess Shephard, Venue Services Manager
If you could describe this year in one word, what would it be and why?
Rewarding, due to the large-scale events that I have been able to manage and work on throughout the year.
What has your favourite moment been this year for the BDC and why?
My favourite moment this year for the BDC has been that we are officially now B Corp Certified, which is a fantastic achievement for us and is an exciting addition to our work on sustainability and achieving Net Zero before 2030.
A specific personal achievement that you’re proud of?
My proudest moment has been managing both the HIX & LIGHT Shows at the Venue and managing our Venue Services Coordinator Olivia; seeing her grow and develop.
What are you looking forward to next year for the BDC and why?
Managing the Workspace Design Show for another year and working on launch shows in the venue.
Daniela Haxhiu, Venue Services Manager
If you could describe this year in one word, what would it be and why?
Powerful. Being able to project manage shows and be a mum made me feel indestructible, strong and self-confident.
What has your favourite moment been this year for the BDC and why?
Receiving brilliant feedback from one of my organisers. Returning to work from maternity leave, this was motivation to get back into work and execute events to the highest standard possible!
What are you looking forward to next year for the BDC and why?
I look forward to taking on extra challenges and pushing myself throughout my events that I will be managing in 2024.
Renay Kenton, Venue Services Manager
If you could describe this year in one word, what would it be and why?
Exciting. Starting a new role in a London venue as this has been something I have been working towards since finishing university.
What has your favourite moment been this year for the BDC and why?
My favourite moment was being invited to the Indy Awards, hosted by the BDC, and winning best supporting venue. It was really nice to be able to meet so many industry peers and represent the BDC.
A specific personal achievement that you’re proud of?
Moving to London and successfully completing my first event here at the venue.
What are you looking forward to next year for the BDC and why?
Having only been here half a year I am looking forward to seeing and working on a variety of events and developing myself further within my role.
Part four of our ‘2023 at the BDC’ series incoming…
