The Business Design Centre has made some key appointments over the last few months. Find out more about our new team members...

BDC Exterior

Cully McDermid joined us as Marketing Coordinator back in June this year. Having graduated her Masters in Global Meetings and Events Management at University College of Birmingham; she has a passion for marketing which she built on in her first role working in the Biometric Security Industry before coming to London.

Outside of the marketing world, Cully spends her time playing field hockey or at live events such as club and international rugby games or music concerts.

Chris Harris joins in a new and exciting role for the business, as the venue’s first dedicated Sustainability Lead. Chris is already a familiar face at the BDC, having a been a longstanding member of our AV supplier at Aztec Event Services. He brings with him over 25 years of experience in the events industry and has already begun work on delivering the next steps in our sustainability journey.

Away from work, Chris enjoys running a sports and social club in east London focusing on bringing, amongst others, lawn bowls, snooker and affordable events to the local community.

Izzy Balchin is our new Venue Services Manager; joining us from sunny Australia, where she Majored in Sociology and got a double minor in International Relations and Social Psychology at the Australia National University in Canberra. Alongside her degree, Izzy gained events experience by organising cultural cinematic film festival opening nights, as well as working in entertainment venues in the Events and Operation teams.

Izzy is a big foodie and loves to try new restaurants and cafes. She is also partial to a cooking class or two where she can expand her culinary skills and learn about new cuisines.

Each year we take on students for year-long placements to develop and grow a new era of event professionals. Many of these have since returned to work at the venue or go on to successful careers elsewhere within the industry. This year we welcome Lucy Ridley as our Venue Services Coordinator.

Lucy Ridley joins the BDC from Manchester Metropolitan University for her placement year. She is studying Events Management and has just finished her second year. Throughout her time at University, she has supported the University’s Corporate Events Team in planning and delivering flagship events such as graduations and Chairman Lunches, as well as working on a variety of Charity and Conference events. A highlight was planning and running a ‘Sip and Paint’ event for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

Lucy likes to take part in various dance classes, especially tap dancing, as well as going to the theatre and spending time with friends.
